Dermal Fillers: what approach is taken?

Dermal fillers are used to support the facial features, compensate for volume loss and shape the facial contour. They may be applied to different areas, such as the lips, the chin and the cheekbones, according to an individual plan. Assessment of suitability and the choice of area are carried out by the physician.

    Areas of assessment and treatment

    • Support for facial features and contour
    • Lips, chin and cheekbone areas
    • Individually tailored planning

Planning according to product and area

Fillers differ in composition, in their intended use and in how long they last. Previous fillers, operations, allergies and skin problems should be disclosed. The structure of the face and the person’s expectations are considered together; the identity of the product to be used and the follow-up arrangements are established.

Which symptoms are not to be expected?

Bruising and swelling may occur; however, unusually severe pain, blanching or darkening of the skin, and any change in vision require emergency assessment. Unintended injection into a blood vessel is rare but can cause serious damage. Arrangements for contact after the procedure and a plan for emergency attendance should be explained in advance.

What is assessed at the first consultation?

Your medical history, your current symptoms, the medicines you take and your needs in daily life are all discussed. You may share any previous investigations you have. Suitable options are considered together after the physician’s assessment.

          Your questions

          Patient information

Can every filler be easily dissolved?

No. Reversibility depends on the type of product, and additional procedures carry risks of their own. The properties of the product should be discussed before a decision is made.

Is a filler a permanent and risk-free procedure?

No. The duration of effect varies, and there are risks associated with injection. Suitability, alternatives and the expected result are determined by medical assessment.
