Intravenous Support Treatments
Intravenous support treatments: medical necessity, the composition of the product, possible risks, alternatives and medical assessment before the procedure.
Updated: · General information
Intravenous Support Treatments: what approach is taken?
Treatments offered under the name of intravenous support involve giving various substances by the intravenous route. The need for the treatment, the properties of the product and the reason for choosing this route should be assessed by a physician. In the absence of an identified deficiency or medical necessity, no general benefit for energy, immunity or detoxification should be assumed. Alternatives and possible risks are discussed, and a decision appropriate to the individual is reached.
Areas of assessment and treatment
- Glutathione therapy
- Intravenous vitamin C therapy
- ALA (alpha-lipoic acid) therapy
- Option of combination with major ozone therapy
- Administered in a medical centre under medical supervision
Investigating the cause of fatigue
Fatigue alone does not indicate a need for any particular infusion. Sleep, nutrition, medication and underlying illnesses must all be assessed. The name of the product given intravenously, its purpose and the reason for choosing that route are explained. A promise of a general increase in energy or of strengthened immunity is no substitute for a diagnosis.
The route of administration itself carries risk
In addition to allergic reactions to the contents, infection of the venous line, irritation of the vein and fluid and electrolyte problems can occur. Kidney or heart disease, pregnancy and medication are included in the assessment. A standard course should not be started without discussing the necessity of the procedure and alternatives such as oral treatment.
What is assessed at the first consultation?
Your medical history, your current symptoms, the medicines you take and your needs in daily life are all discussed. You may share any previous investigations you have. Suitable options are considered together after the physician’s assessment.
Your questions
Patient information
Is taking vitamins intravenously always more effective?
No. The appropriate route is determined by genuine medical need. In the absence of a deficiency or another indication, more vitamins do not guarantee benefit.
What should I do if I feel unwell during the procedure?
Symptoms such as itching, breathlessness, dizziness or pain must be reported to the healthcare team immediately.
